Sofia Vergara

[ads1 id=”alignright”]The beautiful Sofia Vergara has charmed all of us in recent years with her exotic style and impulsive personality. Most people know Sofia from the TV series ‘Modern Family’, but her aspirations to celebrity started earlier than that.

Sofia Vergara’s first shot at fame came in 1989, when a modeling scout spotted 17 years old Sofia walking down the beach. She immediately dropped out of dentistry school to start her modeling career.

In 1990, 17 years old Sofia Vergara marries her high school boyfriend Joe Gonzales, and has a son Manolo after just a couple of years. In 1993, however, the couple breaks up and Sofia resumes her career. It wasn’t until 1998 that Sofia entered the spotlight, and it was due to a personal tragedy.

This tragedy was the murder of her brother Rafael, while her family still lived in Bogota. As soon as they moved to Miami, Sofia becomes a star in the Spanish language game show ‘I Dare You’ which earns young Vergara her TV stripes.

In 2002, Sofia is diagnosed with thyroid cancer and has to undergo surgery to have her thyroid gland removed. To this day, Sofia maintains a positive attitude about her battle with cancer, and remembers fondly about how she asked her son to Photoshop a Frankenstein scar on her neck and sending the photo to her relatives.

Her big debut in cinematography comes in 2003 in the movie Big Trouble, before playing the role of an impulsive waitress in Chasing Papi the same year.

In 2005, she met Tom Cruise at a party in Studio City, Calif, and presumably enters a short relationship with the star. Her role as Mama Morton in Broadway’s Chicago brings out the best in Sofia, as this 2009 production was looking to take a different approach when portraying the famous role, using a more warmhearted character this time. Sofia’s performance as Mama Morton was critically acclaimed at the time, even though she has no acting training whatsoever.

It wasn’t until September 2009 that she became what most people know her as. We are, of course, talking about her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in ABC’s sitcom Modern Family. In this role, she stars along Ed O’Neill and Rico Rodriguez as an immigrant mother with a kid, a character that is very close to Sofia’s heart.

The show was very well received by the American public, which explains the series’ continuity to this day.

In 2010, Sofia started dating Nick Loeb, and despite him going through a serious car accident, they maintain a stead relationship. By July 2010, she finally gets some amazing news. She has been nominated for Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe awards for her performance in ‘Modern Family’, nominations that catch her by surprise as she never thought of herself as an actress, never mind an accomplished one.

By August, she finally wins an Emmy award along the entire cast of the series, before winning a SAG Award for best TV comedy ensemble in 2011.
